7 Necessary Tips for Groom Wedding Speech

Aaron Hu | November 14, 2009

If you are a groom writing your wedding speech the process may seem daunting. However it is actually pretty straight forward. This is one of the best days of your life and you are simply trying to tell your guest that and why. In doing so, you will be able to make an unforgettable impression on the attendees of your wedding. Here are some great tips to help you craft a great groom’s wedding speech.

First off, make sure to talk about the bride. She is the one that you are talking about the most in your speech. After all you just married her! You can go several tacks. You can talk about how you first met and what convinced you that she was the one. You can also go the track of talking about what you love about her and how special she is to you. If you get this part right you will have completed an important part of your speech.

Try to be original. The speech should not be something that you copied of the internet. It is insulting to your bride and to your guests. Also there is the fact that sincere words from the heart will have more resonance than the best crafted speech. This is your moment to express all the emotions you are feeling in this moment and your happiness.

Try to keep to a reasonable time. Nobody likes a longer than necessary speech. Dragging it out won’t make it better. And even if you had the voice of Morgan Free, James Earl Jones, and Barack Obama wrapped into one your speech would still be boring if it goes on for too long. Your job is to simply convey you message in a simple heartfelt way. So try to keep your speech down to 3 to 4 minutes.

Since you will likely have speeches from other members of the bridal party try to make sure that you are not repeating the same things. Check with other speakers to make sure that you are not using the same phrasing, jokes, or stories. Each speech is supposed to give a different perspective on your wedding day. So make it your priority to avoid redundancy.

Use notes cards and set of bullet points. Don’t try to memorize your entire speech. Unless you are an actor the speech will be prone to sound stilted and mechanical. A note card with the highlights and key points of your speech will help to keep you on track and still give you the freedom to still be spontaneous.

Thank everyone that needs thanking. A lot of people will play a part in helping to make your wedding happen. Try to thank everyone who helped with the planning and organizing. These are the people who made your special day possible and they deserve a measure of your gratitude.

Use humor sparingly and with reason. Think of what jokes you are going to use ahead of time. Also don’t try to force humor or go for the extra laugh. Most times it will only lead to you bombing in a very embarrassing way. Use jokes that can fit in naturally with your speech’s subject matter. Also focus on delivery. Many a good joke has died an early death due to poor delivery. Try practicing your jokes on a few close friends and by yourself.

6 Great Tips for Wedding Speeches

Aaron Hu | November 14, 2009

The Wedding speech is a speech given by the best man, father of the bride, or grooms to honor the marriage of the bride and groom. The pressure can be enormous because the speaker has to convey the emotions of the moment and mix in humor and wit at the same time. This can make the speech hard to compose and even more difficult to deliver. The good news is that it is possible to give a great speech even if you are not the best speaker. Here are some tips to help you as the best men give a great Wedding day speech.

Focus on the bride and the groom. The bride and groom are the reason everyone is there so you need to draw on what you know about them and the importance of this day for them. It can be something as simple as short story or enumerating their qualities. Make it a priority to do the best you can to make them the center of your speech.

Keep it short. The biggest danger for a speech is to make it too long. You want to communicate your message in the best way possible and keeping it sweet and simple is one of the best ways to do so. This means that you need to avoid wandering off topic or putting in too many details that can confuse or bore the audience. At the same time you don’t want it to be recited haiku. Take long enough to convey what you want to say but keep it to a reasonable time limit. A good rule of thumb is to keep it to 3 to 4 minutes

When using humor keep it simple and use it sparingly. Unless you are natural comedian, forcing levity or humor into your speech can have awkward if not disastrous consequences. Let it flow naturally where appropriate and if you get some laughter don’t push for more if you are not sure of your delivery. Wit is more spontaneous than planned especially in a speech.

Relax and remember that you are among friends. Too many times whether the speaker is intimidated by the crowd and lets nerves get the better of him. Just realize that you are speaking to friends and loved ones. This is not for the most part a group of anonymous strangers. Keeping that in mind will help you be calmer and more confident.

Look for different perspectives on your subject’s characters. To give an accurate portrait of the bride and groom as people in your speech you need to have a well rounded understanding of who they are and how others around them see them. You can gain insight from talking to friends, colleagues, or family. Each group often sees a side of them that you may have missed. If you can include that in your speech it will have more depth.

Choose your anecdotes carefully when planning your speech. Some speakers like to include a short story to demonstrate their point in a speech. This can be risky but if you are determined to use one look for one that is simple and demonstrates clearly what you admire about the happy couple. It can be something they did for you or something you saw them do that you admired.

There are different reasons why couples would choose unique wedding invitations for their weddings. Others would like to impress their guests with the wedding invitation designs while others would just like to be different from the conventional. However, the main basis of your wedding invitation design should be the wedding theme.

Look at the wedding theme. Is it something more of the traditional or modern theme? With this, you will be able to know what type of designs you are going to choose. The good thing about these wedding invitation designs is that you will find a lot of unique wedding invitation ideas to fit your wedding theme.

If you do not have enough time to think for the design of your wedding invitations, then you can run to your nearest local store to just buy yourself an invitation kit. You can also consider shopping online and end up with possible discounts especially if you will order by bulk.

On these modern times, there are a number of couples who are using the recyclable materials such as dried flowers. This is their way of making unique wedding invitations.

Others even take the idea of painting their own invitation cards. They would usually top it off with some stones, shells, or wood. On the other hand, there are others who would use CDs or DVDs that have the slide shows of the couple’s pictures of their favorite songs.

If you use a disc, you are sure to have a long lasting invitation that may serve as a favor for the guests. They will be reminded of your wedding with the music and picture slide show included. They will be able to view this at their convenience.

Two Magical Words

Dr. David Trumble | November 13, 2009

Have you said the magic words yet? You know. The magic words are the ones spoken a virtually every wedding. The magic words are not abracadabra or hocus pocus but “I do”

Speaking these two words causes an immediate change in the world for all to see and hear. To the unaware, things seem to stay the same; but to the well informed, nothing remains as it was.

A little boy takes years to grow up to become a man, but speaking these two words instantly transforms him into a husband. A little girl takes many years growing up to become a woman, but as she says those two magical words she transforms into a wife. The change is unmistakable.

Instantaneously, you finish the whole dating and courtship process. It happens so quickly, few even notice. One moment you are a bride, and the next you are a wife. One moment you are a groom, and the next you are a husband. One moment you are all alone in the world, and the next you are bound to another for the rest of your married life.

Before you thought for yourself, and were concerned only for your desires. Afterward your whole focus revolves around the welfare and interests of the union of marriage. Before you were free to go on prowl for every sensual opportunity. Afterward you willingly gaze only upon your partner refusing to even glance at another option.

One moment you owned what you owned, and the next moment your partner owns half of everything you own. One moment you are in charge of your life, and the next your partner has a voice in the things you do, the things you say, the choices you make, the work you do, the place you reside, and the life you live. You are not your own. You belong to them.

Mystery, magic, miraculous, and breathtaking are all words that describe the force found in the words “I Do”. Yet, the meaning may still allude us, unless we realize that the magic comes from the hidden power of love.

Understanding the full scope and depth entailed in the words “I Do” may well escape most couples. As they speak these words, they are often energized by feelings so strong that they just cannot resist or even think. They can only guess at what is to follow, but they do so with great zeal.

On one hand, a man agrees to and signs a legal contract full of marriage obligations, restrictions, and benefits. On the other hand, a man pledges everything he owns and everything he is to his bride. He does these things with the whole world watching. If he fails in any way to meet his pledge, the whole world will hold him accountable.

These promises include a pledge not only of faithfulness in which he vows never to enjoy sexual relations of any kind with a woman other than his wife. On the surface, this means he commits himself not to have an affair with another woman and not to abandon his wife for the arms of another woman. Underlying this pledge is a promise to avoid looking, flirting, even thinking about sexual relations with another woman.

In speaking these words a man accepts responsibility to give his wife and family the necessities they need including food, shelter, clothing, and emotional supports. This acceptance is a pledge to sacrifice his own needs to meet the needs of his wife considering her desires and needs superior to his own.

The instant he says “I do” and completes the wedding ceremony, half of everything he owns now belongs to his wife. In most states, it does not matter whose name is signed on a title, half of the assets of one belong to the other. An exception occasionally occurs when a pre-nuptial agreement authorized certain alterations.

The grooms says, “I promise to protect you from all harm in good times and in bad.” The dangers of the world are very real. Marriage and family often come under attack, but the husband stands as the valiant protector against all such threats whether from outside or from within.

The bride repeats, “I pledge to give myself to you freely to give you pleasure and comfort, to sooth and to stimulate. I promise myself only to you for the rest of my life.”

Standing side by side with her husband the wife commits herself to be a mutual partner in life. She is there when all is well, and she is there when storms arise. She honors and respects her husband and joins him to share the challenges and blessings of life. She stands ready at any moment to sacrifice her own desires for the welfare of their marriage and family.

When you speak those two words, expect your life to transform. Everything can be new and exciting. The pledges made between husband and wife form the foundation for a life time of giving and love.
