Problems with a Council
Abigail Charlton | September 30, 2011If you look outside your own house you can see that when it comes to the Council they always seem to be doing some kind of work. Maintenance on the roads, building new facilities and buildings for the community are all challenges that the Council is tasked with and as with any type of construction work, when the work is taking place it can create a dangerous environment for unsuspecting passers-by.
Gas pipes and electrical lines are often the responsibility of the Council and these are two areas where a great deal of urgent repairs usually need to take place. Although these tasks are usually clearly posted there is still the possibility that you could be caught unawareness and accidentally walk into a construction zone. If this happens and you are injured as a result then you may be able to claim against the Council for your medical costs.
Local libraries and public buildings and places including parks are also owned by the Council and if you incur an injury in any of these areas then the Council could be liable to pay your medical fees and any loss of income that you incur.
Another major cause of damage by the Council is not personal damage but damage to property. In severe storms trees that line your local street which is owned by your Council could fall on your house, your car or any other item of your property causing extensive damage or for it to be destroyed altogether. In this case you can claim against the Council for the cost of repairing your property as the damage was caused by something that they own.
The Council is also responsible for providing you with a range of facilities such as bin collection which are provided for through your Council Tax bill. Provided you dispose of it correctly the Council is responsible to clear you household waste in a safe and effective manner to ensure that you can keep your home a healthy and safe location.
