Nature Photography Captures Pure Beauty

Wallace Brigs | October 17, 2010

Some photographers need to get unique clothes for their subjects or bring makeup designers to fix the faces of their subjects. A few have to use atmosphere brushes to make their own subjects appear younger or prettier. Nature photography strives to capture the beauty of the actual natural world, and there is lots of material for their quest. The artists of nature photography seek out the glorious creatures and moments that appear in the actual natural world. They do not will often have to apply anything to make their subjects more glorious. The stripes on a zebra or the markings on a lion provide plenty of material for the great photographers of nature.

The beauty inherent in nature does not mean that these photographers can just point their cameras and shoot their subjects. Their passion for nature photography leads them to find aesthetic angles for their photographs. Nature photography usually utilizes natural light to capture the images. The light in the sun is their ally and also their adversary. The great photographers of nature photography must know and use this resource for the most spectacular effects. A magnificent hill photographed at dawn will probably provide a more glorious photograph than the same mountain photographed at midday.

Nature Photography Captures Variety

The photographers devoted to capturing the images from nature have a wide variety of subjects. They have black bears in the mountains or even white bears on the ice. These photographers capture the vicious lions devouring a helpless, gentle creature. These types of photographers capture images of towering mountains or the barren deserts around the world. Their own subjects are everywhere. Photography enthusiasts devoted to nature possess subjects in Kenya and others in Mongolia. There are wonderful photographs from Timbuktu and others from Los Angeles. These types of photographers capture delicate orchids in Bangkok and sticky cacti in Phoenix.

The truly amazing photographers of nature have provided information for generations in the future. Their subjects include exotic monkeys that might not survive until the following millennium. They capture the actual prairies that might be full of housing developments in two decades time. Their subjects that roam free currently may appear in zoos a hundred years from now. Some of their subjects are easily seen today but may be managed by a ruthless dictator who outlaws tourists next year. The work of the photography enthusiasts of nature provides the present population with images through nature that has been transformed since they snapped those pictures. The photographers devoted to nature now capture moments and creatures that may vanish before the next generation reaches see them.

Are You Unhappy At The Quality Of Your Holiday Photos?

Peter Dawson | November 14, 2009

You been there before. You go on holidays and take lots of photos of all those stunning sights and the wonderful places you went to. But you get home, you look at your photos and you’re always disappointed. They look lifeless and dull and ordinary.

Nothing that you wanted to convey in your photos is there. The sunset that was so stunning is gone. That extra special light that made that view look so special is missing. And you got that special smile on your girlfriends face, except that when you look at the photo you didn’t get that smile at all.

I don’t mean simple mistakes like your thumb over the lens. After all you do know something about photography and you’ve bought a good quality digital camera. You’ve spent some time reading all about it and you’ve managed to get some confidence that your photography skills are on the up and you really ought to be taking good photos now.

But you just seem to be disappointed every time you look at your photos. You don’t seem to be improving. You photos just don’t tell the story you want them to tell.

You can find that it’s only a small step to go from a photo dunce to a photo pro. All you need is some basic understanding of some of the simple steps that every professional photographer knows.

Some simple stuff like how to compose a good photograph. How to make best use of light. How to take good photos of people, pets and the outdoors. How to use a tripod properly. How to make best use of your flash.

Modern cameras are excellent. They are manufactured to take good photos, but it isn’t sufficient to just point and shoot as the ads seem to say. You still need to know some photography basics. There is no camera in the world that will take great photos guaranteed, every time, if all you do is to point and shoot.

They would build the perfect point and shoot camera if they could, but to date you can’t buy one. There’s no way to take great photos without spending some time learning the basics of good photography.

It’s not hard, you need to practice a little, but you enjoy photography so you’ll enjoy practicing. You need to learn some of the secrets of the pros and apply them.

Then you’ll go on holidays next time and you’ll take great photos and never feel embarrassed about showing them to your friends. In fact you might even find your friends asking you for some good photography tips.

And you might even look at your holiday photos and find your girlfriend smiling.

I’ve written a book about how to take better photos, you can get it on my website.

Wedding Photography – Tips On How To Save Money

Sammy Shaw | November 13, 2009

Wedding photos are the symbol of a once in a lifetime event, and most brides are reluctant to cut costs in this area. While we feel reluctant to offer cost-saving tips on your wedding photos, the cost of professional wedding photography means that today not everyone can afford these services.

For the bride on a budget, here are some ways to cut costs on your wedding photos:

1.) Search Among Your Family or Friends for a Photographer. There is certain to be somebody who is into photography and owns better equipment than ordinary folks normally have. Try to find a relation who takes good photos and you can ask him to help out. You should employ the services of the persons who are willing to assist to trim your wedding expenses. If you do find somebody, be sure to speak with them in advance and make him/her aware of any particular poses you desire.

(2) Check with your local college or university for a photography student. They will love to have an opportunity to work an event and have something to put in their portfolio. Sure they are amateurs, but that means they will have a different view and will bring new creative ideas to give you some unique photos.

3.) You Can Provide Disposable Cameras to the Guests As Well. Put the disposable cameras on every table to let your invitees take pictures. You can choose the photo that you like the best after looking at photos from various angles. Place one person in charge of the development of the photos and camera gathering.

(4) If you must have a professional do the job, shop around and contact several photographers for quotes. Tell them you are trying to stay to a strict budget and see what they can do for you. You may well be pleasantly surprised by their reaction. Cutting back on the amount of photos taken will also help you stay within your photo budget.

Food Photography Tips

James Wong | November 13, 2009

Food photography is a very technical area of photography because you have two dimensions to master – film and food. Here are some useful tips to help you.

Light

Light is obviously the tool of a photographer second to the camera itself. Getting this right is always the trick with any kind of photography. With food photography though it is super important. Get it wrong and no amount of photoshop work will bring the picture to life.

Props

Food photographers setting up to take a picture not only arrange the food neatly but they also include a plate or table cloth to add the surrounding. The idea is not to clutter the picture but allow room for a few extra items you can add to it like a glass, napkin, or a fork. These items can be placed in the background in a secondary location of your picture area, giving it extra spice.

If you do a lot of food photography then shopping at second hand markets can be a great way to build your box of props. You can pick up expensive items like large pots and dishes and vases for a few dollars and a smile. If you do not do much then you may have to go shopping for what you need and bill the client!

Be Fast

If you are a slow-coach perfectionist then food photography may be hard for your to master. Like master chefs that throw masterpieces dishes together in minutes master food photographers capture the essence in minutes too. Be quick else it will be a mess is the thing to remember with food photography. As soon as food warms or cools it droops, melts, discolours and a whole range of other things. Be ready with all the lighting and use placeholder items such as places to get the lighting right. Once the food is there you should be shooting.

Simple way to enhance your photos

One simple way is to simply use a light high quality vegetable oil and brush it on the food! This will create a high quality shiny finish that we love to see on food.

Get to know the chef

The last area to cover is working with you food professional. If you are unlucky you will have to do the presentation of the food yourself. If you are lucky and the client has a good budget you will have a chef to do the food display.

Take a few minutes before the shoot to talk with the chef and ask them how they like to work. Ask them if there is anything you need to know about the food that may not be obvious. If nothing else this will make them feel good so you will then be able to work closer and better together.
