It involves people literally starving themselves of carbohydrates because they have been told the elimination of carbs leads to the body burning fat for energy instead. While partially true, this assessment is not 100% accurate. While the body will burn fat when too few carbs are available, it will also burn protein as well. Protein is another word for your lean muscle mass. Needless to say, most people would prefer not to lose muscles when dieting!</p>
<p>Additionally, a great deal of the weight lost when on a low carb diet will be water. This is to be expected since carbohydrates promote the retention of water. When all the carbs in the body are depleted, the body will immediately shed 7lbs or more of water. That will lead to a slightly lighter weight but you will not lose fat. The water that was lost will also return very shortly because you will need to rehydrate at some point. Also, you will have to up your carb intake sooner or later. The final analysis here is that the low carb diet is a weak diet strategy that some take part in due to misinformation. That is a common thread among weak diets: people jump into them based on bad info.</p>

The bottom line here is these oddball diets are absurd.</p>

Lifting weights and performing cardio exercises would definitely fall into the category of reliable methods although they have their limitations. Or, more accurately, human beings have their physical limitations. Cardio and weight training programs can put a strain on the body. Thankfully, there are other means in which one can boost metabolic function simply by altering dietary choices and the amount/frequency of food consumption. This is not a trick or gimmick.
