Weighted Grade Point Average

Jonas Hanks | October 24, 2011

There are many different groups that use weighted grade point average as a measure for selection. College admissions committees, scholarship committees, and even some employers are interested in weighted grade point average. Therefore, it is important to be able to tabulate your weighted GPA.

The first order of business is to determine which grading scale is to be used. Most schools and employers will use the 5-point scale. This is the same as a 4.0 scale, except that advanced courses (usually honors and advanced placement classes) receive an additional grade point beyond the usual maximum of 4. This helps to compensate for the difficult nature of these courses.

The second step is to get a transcript of all your classes, including grades and number of credits. For every class in your schedule, multiply the number of credits by the number of grade points from the weighted GPA scale.

For instance, a 2-credit class with a grade of B (not honors or AP) would be 2 credits multiplied by 3 grade points for a total of 6. Do this for each class and then sum all of the results. Take this final number and divide by the total number of credits. The quotient is your weighted GPA.

After figuring out your weighted grade point average you may want to boost the number to improve your chances of getting a job, landing a scholarship, or getting into college. The best way to do this is to take courses in which you can excel, especially if they are honors or advanced placement. These advanced classes will not only receive more grade points, but they will also look better on your transcripts.

One of the most important things you can do in your education is to plan ahead. When you are at the point of applying for schools, scholarships, and jobs it is too late to affect your grades. Learn about the selection criteria several semesters before you need to submit anything. This will allow you to bump up your weighted GPA before it is too late.

Learn more about unweighted GPA. Use the weighted GPA calculator to prepare for your applications.

Education About The Educational Loan

Jacinda Trueba | April 29, 2011

Securing a loan doesn’t come simple the very first time. Anybody who has been through the old rigmarole of truly securing a loan will be aware of the difficulties that might be encountered. The young man who is straight out of college might wish to secure a personal loan. A woman in her mid-twenties could be noting the pros and cons of taking an auto loan. A young, married couple may be searching at obtaining a mortgage so that they can invest in some property. But no matter what the scenario, securing that loan isn’t going to be simple.

Let us take the case of a young individual who wants a degree from a university. As we all know, higher education is quite costly. We might wish to get that degree or diploma, and may possibly have sufficient brain power to get it, but our bank balance might be insufficient. Luckily, for most of us, education loans can be accessed by all.

Banks and monetary institutions in each and every nook and cranny are ready to pay the fees for the educational dreams of several students, both young and old. The expansion in the loan markets has helped us apply for different kinds of loans. As a result, young students who harbor dreams of higher education are able to live out their dreams.

At the same time, no borrower must enable himself to be satisfied using the initial loan he finds. Remember that the loan providers are considering expanding their business. You’re their customer, and it is their duty to assist you in paying for various expenses. Hence, don’t enable your self to feel morally indebted to the loan provider. This is a enterprise deal, pure and straightforward. The only factor that should not be neglected is that you simply have to repay the loan in excellent time. Defaulting on the quantity only leads to still much more avoidable expenses.

Even while searching for an education loan, you need to choose what will likely be cost-effective. Ask yourself in the event you will indeed be able to repay the loan quantity. Also, look out for discounted deals and unique provides. There might be special deals accessible for the course that you are applying for. Check with students who are attending that course. Discover what loans may be an excellent concept. And do not rush into any deal just since the lender makes an excellent sales pitch.

If you are thinking about making your in diploma in broadcasting or want to make your career in film directing, broadcasting courses is perfect place for you.

Online Education Degree – 7 Things You Must Do Right To Succeed

Mary Jackson | November 10, 2009

For those students who cannot afford the time or money to take full-time courses on campus, an online education degree has removed many roadblocks. In fact, there are several advantages over traditional degrees. Nevertheless, because the methods of instruction and learning are quite different, students need to consider the adjustments and changes necessary to receiving a quality education degree online.

1. Choosing the right accredited online college or university – The first step is to select the right institution to provide for your online education degree. Do your homework before starting school, and make sure the school has been accredited by the appropriate accrediting agencies. Unfortunately, without that educational stamp of approval, the degree will not be worth the paper on which it is printed. In fact, “diploma mills” offer substandard, or no education with the promise of a quick (but worthless) degree.

2. Analyze cost vs. benefit – Some students enroll in a distance learning program without considering the cost. Generally, the cost per credit hour is fairly expensive. However, decide whether the education will translate into better income opportunities down the road. Only after assessing the true benefits can students appreciate the rewards of obtaining an education online degree.

3. Provide degree verification to potential employers – Faced with the prevalence of bogus and worthless degrees, it is no wonder that prospective employers are a little wary to hire employees who have acquired a diploma through distance learning. Therefore, anticipate potential skepticism and bring along proof of accreditation from the college or university. By underscoring the recognition of the U.S. Department of Education and CHEA, it will immediately alleviate any degree misgivings.

4. Practice discipline, intrinsic motivation, and good time management – In the beginning, students may not fully comprehend the discipline necessary to stay focused and keep pace with online classes. It takes strong intrinsic motivation to succeed without the classroom atmosphere and peers. Time management is critical. Setting up communication with other students will be most helpful on the road to success.

5. Utilize all the facilities provided – Online courses generally provide online lectures and email correspondence to ensure a means of communication with instructors, tutors, and fellow students. Take advantage of every opportunity to utilize these resources of motivation and encouragement, as well as establish a sense of connection with the college or university.

6. Make use of Credit transfers – Even institutions solely dedicated to the online education degree will generally accept some, or all, of the credits obtained from another accredited online college or university. So, to avoid the expense and time necessary to retake unneeded courses, make the effort to obtain official transcripts. Then, the applicable credits can be transferred, bringing the student a little closer to that coveted diploma.

7. Take advantage of technology to complete your class work – Another factor for online education degree success is the opportunity to take advantage of all the conveniences that technology provides. Many accredited online colleges provide students with online digital libraries, databases and resources that a student can use to complete their course work and assignments. In most instances the cost of these facilities is already included in the tuition fees. Thus it makes good sense to make full use of these resources to your advantage.
